For that, a modified version of WestwoodвЂ™s W3D engine was created and dubbed SAGE (Strategy Action Game Engine), an engine that would stick around for every future installment of the franchise. If the series was to survive, the first step was bringing in a new engine in order to make the leap to 3D. Not only was this the first 3D RTS of the franchise, but it also came out at a time when the old formula was perceived to be, well, exactly that. Generals marked a new beginning for the franchise. The game speed is tied to the FPS and unlocking it will make the game go faster than intended. And whatever you do, do not try to remove the 30 FPS cap.
